Industrial USB hubs are used to connect multiple USB devices simultaneously to a host computer or control system. They extend the limited number of USB ports to allow simultaneous use of peripherals such as cameras, sensors, meters and storage drives. In addition, their industrial design makes them more rugged and durable than standard USB hubs to meet the demands of industrial environments. The operation of an industrial USB hub is based on a single upstream port (connected to the computer) and multiple downstream ports (connected to the USB devices). The hub acts as a central interface that coordinates data traffic between the host and connected devices. Each connected USB port maintains the USB specification to ensure proper data transfer. Industrial USB hubs can be equipped with additional features such as surge protection and ESD (electrostatic discharge) protection to protect the connected devices from damage.
