Latest News to Windows® 10 IoT

With the change of the license versions of the operating system Windows® 10 IoT Enterprise LTSB (Long Term Sevicing Branch) 2016 by Microsoft® on 1st October 2016, the CPU performance instead of the application (differentiation between industry PCs, retail/thin clients or tablets) is in determinant from now on. The three-staged license model is staggered as follows:

  • • Enterprise “High-Value” for ICPs with high performance CPUs Intel® CoreTM-i7 or XeonTM CPUs
  • • Eenterprise “Value” for ICPs with Intel® Celeron® / Pentium® CoreTM-i3, CoreTM-i5 or CoreTM M CPUs and
  • • Enterprise “Entry” for ICPs with Intel® AtomTM or the low performance Celeron® processors N3160, N3060, N3010, N2930, N2807, J1900.

For the future use of Windows® 10 IoT in the industrial field, this change results in a significant cost reduction in comparison to the previous license model. From experience the majority of our costumers use “embedded” processors with low heat development for their customized embedded boxes, panel PCs or rack/compact PCs. The proven features of Windows® 10 IoT include long-term availability until 2026 and specific embedded features for instance the write filter or the shell launcher. Additionally, ICP provides a recovery options with immediate effect. This comprises a 64GB USB stick including the IEI recovery tool and the file to restore the operating system.
